COVID-19 and Lyme Disease
SARS-COV2 is a viral infection that has similar effects on the body as Lyme disease. They both initiate an extreme pro-inflammatory event by increasing the production and release of IL-6 which is part of a cytokine storm. A cytokine storm causes severe inflammation in tissues and the inflammation is what causes damage to cells and organs. Unchecked inflammation is what leads to chronic illness and degenerative diseases such as arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Hypertension, etc. An anti-inflammatory diet, adequate sleep, and exercise can help minimize the damage caused by these infections.
Herbs, vitamins, antivirals, and antibiotics may be required to contain the infection and reduce inflammation as well. Specific blood tests will determine where we need to turn our intervention efforts and we can repeat them every 3-6 months to monitor your progress.
