Hydration is a crucial piece of the healing journey. Humans are made mostly of water, ranging from 50-70% of total body mass. While we may be able to withstand 3-4 weeks without food, we can only go about 4 days without water. Water is the quintessential cleanser and helps remove toxins and cellular debris from the body. It also cushions and protects our organs, joints, and brain fluid. Drinking water helps assist the body in detoxification. Lyme patients naturally accumulate an excessive amount of bodily toxins. Water is the easiest and most essential way to help purge those toxins. The more hydrated we are the easier it is for our bodies to repair our damaged tissues. Think of hydration as the foundation of healing from chronic illness.
Symptoms of dehydration include:
- Sleepiness
- Sunken Eyes
- Dry Skin
- Low BP
- Poor Physical Performance
- Rapid Heart Beat
- Rapid Breathing
- Headaches
- Irritability
- Poor Cognitive Performance
You should try and drink at least 2 liters of water a day. To add some taste, you can put berries, lemons, lime, or orange slices in the water. You’ll be amazed how much easier it is to drink 2 liters of water a day when you add a splash of fruit flavor to it!
